This client had a very traumatic and scary burn injury at work. The knowledge that it could have been so much worse, even to the extent of losing one’s life, impacted the client greatly. Thankfully, they were able to obtain prompt medical treatment, and ultimately made a full recovery with very minimal scarring on their stomach. Because the scar was nearly invisible, the Illinois Worker’s Compensation Act doesn’t value permanent disfigurement very high in such a case, so the permanency value was quite low. However, there was a relatively small unpaid medical balance that the insurance company was refusing to pay, which had since been sent to collections and was affecting the client’s credit score, impacting their ability to get a home mortgage. It was this issue that the client was most concerned about. Yet, they were struggling to find help.
